The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast renewed rainfall activity across Odisha from September 8, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds expected in several districts.
According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, the monsoon troughline currently stretching from Rajasthan through Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh is set to influence Odisha, triggering light to moderate rain with thunder and squalls.
Until September 7, isolated rainfall or thunderstorms may occur across districts, with yellow warnings issued for northern and eastern regions where winds could reach 30–40 kmph.
From September 8 onwards, rainfall intensity is likely to increase, accompanied by lightning and thunder. Districts including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Ganjam, Puri, and Khordha are expected to see more active weather conditions.
Between September 9 and 12, heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is forecast at isolated places, particularly in Baleshwar, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, and adjoining districts, where yellow warnings remain in effect.
Western and southern Odisha districts such as Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Balangir are likely to experience comparatively less impact, officials said.
