The Odisha government has greenlit the installation of 21,300 new tube wells across various districts to tackle the pressing issue of water scarcity, according to Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik.
This move comes as part of a broader strategy to ensure reliable water access, with a mega piped water project set to be completed by 2025.
Naik emphasized that the current administration is addressing long-neglected water challenges, unlike its predecessor. “We’ve instructed officials to resolve any water-related complaints within seven days,” he stated, urging citizens to report issues to block authorities. With 5.2 lakh tube wells already in place, the additional infrastructure aims to bridge gaps in rural and underserved areas.
Despite hurdles like limited machinery and vehicles, efforts are underway to accelerate tube well installations. In regions where water projects face delays, Naik has directed agencies to supply water via tankers to every village. “No community will be left without access,” he assured.
