A migrant worker from Odisha’s Rayagada district died by suicide in Tamil Nadu, leaving his family and village in deep mourning.
The deceased, identified as 31-year-old Kuladhar Gauda of Podapadar village under Adajore panchayat in Kashipur block, had gone to Tamil Nadu for work.
Reports said Kuladhar died on Friday, but his family received the news nearly 24 hours later, on Saturday. The delay added to their anguish, as they struggled to understand the circumstances of his death. Local sources confirmed that he took his own life, though details remain unclear.
Human rights activist Sadan Majhi from Kashipur intervened immediately after learning of the incident. He informed the local police and the district labour department, urging them to help bring back the body and ensure justice for the bereaved family.
The tragedy has reignited concerns over the safety and welfare of Odia migrant workers employed in distant states. Locals and activists demanded stronger government measures to protect labourers working outside Odisha and to provide timely assistance to their families in distress.
