National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a second high-profile meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi within 24 hours, as India evaluates its security stance following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources confirm that the 40-minute discussion at the Prime Minister’s residence focused on India’s potential response to escalating tensions with Pakistan. Just a day earlier, Doval and Home Secretary Govind Mohan had joined the Prime Minister for a high-level security review.
The Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in 26 civilian casualties, has prompted swift action from top security and defence officials. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi have all briefed Modi on evolving threats in recent days.
Modi has now granted the armed forces complete operational freedom, allowing them to determine the timing, mode, and targets for any retaliatory action.
In preparation for potential conflict scenarios, the Union Home Ministry has directed all states and Union Territories to conduct a nationwide mock drill on May 7. The drill will cover:
- Air-raid sirens and evacuation rehearsals
- Emergency communication testing
- Activation of the control and shadow control rooms
India is now actively gearing up for new and complex threats, ensuring readiness for any unforeseen developments.
