Hours after Gurugram Police added an attempt to murder charge against him, the main accused in the Golf Course Road bike crash case, Kalyan Bainsla, was arrested in Rajasthan on Tuesday.
Bainsla was booked under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relates to attempt to murder, after a woman biker alleged that he rammed his car into her during a road-rage incident.
The FIR was initially registered under Sections 125 and 281 of the BNS, pertaining to acts endangering the life or personal safety of others and rash driving, respectively.
What happened on Golf Course Road?
The incident occurred early Sunday when the woman, identified as Sia, was riding her Aprilia sportbike with a group of riders on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road.
According to Sia, the driver of a white Maruti Ciaz allegedly followed her and repeatedly signalled for her to stop after driving dangerously close to her motorcycle.
“He had started chasing me on the Golf Course Road. I asked him to drive while maintaining distance. He kept making hand gestures, ordering me to stop my bike,” she said in a video posted on social media.
The footage subsequently went viral, prompting Gurugram Police to take suo motu cognisance of the incident.
Attempt to murder charge added
Police initially registered the case under Sections 125 and 281 of the BNS.
On Tuesday, investigators added Section 109, escalating the case to an attempt to murder charge.
Bainsla, however, denied intentionally hitting the bikers.
“I did not hit them intentionally,” he said, according to the report.
Kalyan Bainsla arrested in Rajasthan
Hours after the attempt to murder charge was added, police arrested Bainsla in Rajasthan on Tuesday.
His arrest came as the investigation into the road-rage incident intensified following the circulation of the video on social media.
Police are expected to question the accused as part of the ongoing investigation. The allegations against Bainsla are yet to be established in court.
