Several parts of Odisha are likely to witness continued Nor’wester activity over the next few days, with the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds till June 10.
The weather department has issued an Orange Warning for eight districts during the next 24 hours due to the likelihood of intense weather conditions associated with Nor’wester storms.
Orange Warning for 8 Districts
According to the latest forecast, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph.
Meteorologists have advised residents in these districts to remain alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorm activity.
Strong Winds and Thunderstorms Expected
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that Nor’wester conditions are likely to remain active across several parts of Odisha. The Orange Warning has been issued considering the possibility of strong winds, lightning strikes, and localized heavy weather events.
In addition, a Yellow Warning has been issued for 15 districts, where thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely to occur.
Southwest Monsoon Continues to Advance
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is steadily advancing across the country. According to the weather department, the monsoon has progressed further into parts of the Arabian Sea, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring evolving weather systems as seasonal activity remains active across eastern and southern India.

Authorities have urged people in affected districts to:
- Avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
- Stay indoors when lightning activity is reported.
- Secure loose outdoor objects that may be blown away by strong winds.
- Follow official weather updates and advisories issued by IMD and local authorities.
With Nor’wester storms expected to persist until June 10, residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for sudden changes in weather conditions.
