In a move to bolster its organisational structure and amplify the voice of Odisha’s youth and students, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President Naveen Patnaik has approved the formation of new state committees for the party’s youth and student wings.

The announcement includes 160 office bearers for the Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD), comprising four working presidents, and 145 office bearers for the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), including five working presidents. The committee aims to represent talented and capable young leaders from across the state, ensuring diverse regional representation.

This development follows the party’s foundation day celebrations, where Patnaik had already declared committees for 11 districts, emphasising a renewed focus on grassroots mobilisation.

At a press conference held at Sankha Bhawan today, BYJD President Chinmay Sahu highlighted the party’s long-term vision. “On foundation day, our honourable president Naveen Patnaik announced that BJD will continue to serve as the voice of Odisha’s people for the next 100 years,” Sahu said. “In line with this, post-foundation day, we have announced 11 district committees and now a strong state committee for the youth and student wings. Skilled and talented young men and women from every region and district have been included. Against the BJP government’s neglect and insensitive governance, Biju Yuva Janata Dal will firmly protest at every level as the people’s voice.”

Echoing similar sentiments, BCJD President Ipsita Sahu criticised the current BJP-led state government for its failures. “Since the BJP came to power in Odisha, law and order have deteriorated alarmingly. Violence against women and atrocities on female students have risen to concerning levels,” she stated. “Instead of protecting students’ interests, the BJP government has taken steps like discontinuing student scholarships. Under the leadership and guidance of party president Naveen Patnaik, the new office bearers of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal will continue a strong fight against every anti-people action and failure of the state government in the coming days.”

Sahu added that the committees comprise proficient student leaders with expertise in various fields, who will play a key role in taking the party’s programs to the grassroots level and ensuring widespread representation.

This restructuring comes amid BJD’s efforts to regroup and challenge the ruling BJP on issues like governance, women’s safety, and youth welfare, positioning the party as a strong opposition force in Odisha.
