Soon after the foundation day of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), party president Naveen Patnaik initiated the reorganisation of district committees.
In the initial phase, new committees have been established in 11 organisational districts: Boudh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Subarnapur, Sundargarh, Angul, Deogarh, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Gajapati, and Malkangiri. These committees are expected to play a pivotal role in disseminating the party’s programs at the grassroots level, as stated by the party.
The newly formed committees include key positions such as vice-president, general secretary, secretary, and treasurer, assigned to dedicated party leaders. The committees vary in size, reflecting the party’s efforts to strengthen its local presence:
- Boudh district committee: 35 members
- Kandhamal: 50 members
- Deogarh: 17 members
- Gajapati: 40 members
- Keonjhar: 50 members
- Angul: 39 members
- Malkangiri: 31 members
- Sundargarh: 46 members
- Jharsuguda: 27 members
- Kalahandi: 50 members
- Subarnapur: 49 members
This move comes as part of BJD’s strategy to revitalise its organisational structure ahead of future political challenges, ensuring broader outreach and stronger coordination at the district level.
