Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Das, critically injured in a firing by a police man, has been admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for further treatment.
Das, 60, was airlifted to the State Capital from a local hospital in Jharsuguda with an accompanying medical team of specialists and life support equipment.
The Commissionerate police set up a green corridor from airport to the hospital for hassle-free movement of the Ambulance carrying the injured the minister.
Sources said, a team of doctors has started his treatment. A team of the best specialists in the State, drawn from Apollo Hospital, SCB MCH and Capital Hospital are attending to him, an official release stated.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also visited the hospital and enquired his health condition. Patnaik also discussed with the doctors regarding the treatment.
The CM, while condemning such ghastly attack on his Cabinet colleague, ordered the Crime Branch to investigate the matter.
“I am shocked at the unfortunate incident of attack on honourable minister Shri Naba Das. I strongly condemn the attack on him. I pray for his early recovery,” said the Chief Minister.
Police said an assistant sub-inspector of Police named Gopal Das fired at the minister from point blank range in Brajarajnagar while the senior BJD leader was getting out of his car. The accused cop has been arrested and is being interrogated, Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Gupteswar Bhoi said.
Bullets hit his chest on the left side, Bhoi added.
