Police in Berhampur recovered the mutilated body of an unidentified youth from an abandoned house near Gita Bhavan on Hill Patna Giri Road under Gosain Nuagaon police limits.
The discovery has raised strong suspicion of murder.
Officials said the youth appeared to have been attacked brutally with a cement flower pot, leaving him grievously injured and dead. The body was found soaked in blood, and police immediately launched an investigation.
A scientific team and sniffer dogs reached the site to assist in evidence collection. The body has been seized and sent for post-mortem examination. Police registered a murder case and began efforts to establish the victim’s identity.
The incident follows a series of violent crimes in the Berhampur district, including recent cases of abduction, armed attacks, and killings. Police sources said five accused were arrested in earlier cases within 15 days, some after an exchange of fire during raids.
Investigators noted that the crime scene lacked CCTV coverage. The only nearby house with cameras had its system defunct for two months, complicating evidence gathering.
