Mumbai Indians (MI) celebrated their first home game of the TATA IPL 2025 season with an emphatic eight-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium.
Debutant Ashwani Kumar stole the limelight, delivering a phenomenal 4-wicket haul for just 24 runs, the second-best debut performance in MI history.
KKR, put into bat, faltered early as Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar dismantled their top order. With Ashwani Kumar dismissing key batters like Ajinkya Rahane and Andre Russell, KKR crumbled to 116 runs in 16.2 overs.
MI’s chase was led by Ryan Rickelton, who displayed composure and flair in his unbeaten 62 off 41 balls. Supported briefly by Rohit Sharma and finished in style by Suryakumar Yadav, MI achieved the target in just 12.5 overs.
This victory marked MI’s first of the season, propelling them from 10th to 6th in the standings and significantly boosting their Net Run Rate, while KKR now languish at the bottom of the table.
