Mulayam No More: Prez, PM, Odisha CM Among Others Express Grief, UP Announces 3-Day Mourning

New Delhi/Lucknow: Condolences poured in for Samajwadi Party founder and former UP chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav who died at a private hospital in Gurugram at the age of 82 on Monday.

President Droupadi Murmu termed his demise as an “irreparable loss” to the country.

Terming him as Darti Putra, Murmu stated through a tweet that his experience in Indian politics was unparallel. He was a respectable leader among all cutting across party lines, she tweeted.

The President also offered heartfelt condolence for his family. She said the achievements of Mulayam Singh Yadav, who came from an ordinary environment, were extraordinary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled his passing away. Modi said Yadav was widely admired as a humble and grounded leader who was sensitive to people’s problems.

“Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji was a remarkable personality. He was widely admired as a humble and grounded leader who was sensitive to people’s problems,” Modi said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke to Akhilesh Yadav and offered condolences. In a tweet Yogi stated that he was the pillar of socialism. A struggling era came to an end today with his demise, Yogi tweeted.

The CM also announced a three-day State mourning in UP. He informed that the last rites of the former CM will be held with full of state honour.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also expressed grief over the death of a socialist leader. Patnaik, in a tweet, stated Yadav will always be remembered for his contribution to uplift the downtrodden.

The 82-year-old Yadav passed away on Monday at Medanta hospital in Gurugram after prolonged illness.

The Samajwadi Party informed it through its twiiter handle.

“Mere adarniya pitaji aur sabke netaji nahi rahe – Akhilesh Yadav,” the SP tweeted from its Twitter handle.

The veteran leader was admitted to the hospital since August and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Gurugram-based Medanta Hospital on October 2.
