A devastating fire swept through a musical equipment warehouse in Odisha’s Bhadrak district late on Friday night, causing extensive damage and financial losses estimated between ₹5 crore and ₹10 crore. The incident occurred at Maninathpur village under the jurisdiction of Bhandaripokhari police station.

The warehouse, owned by Ajay Musical, was engulfed in flames at around 10 pm. Local residents noticed thick smoke and fire emerging from the building and promptly alerted the Fire Services department.

Firefighters Battle Blaze for Hours

By the time emergency responders arrived, the fire had already spread across a significant portion of the warehouse. Three fire tenders from Jajpur district were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.

Firefighters worked tirelessly for nearly three hours before successfully bringing the fire under control. Local residents also assisted in the firefighting efforts.

Prabhat Ghadei, a local resident, said the warehouse contained a large inventory of musical instruments, diesel generator (DG) sets, sound systems, and other electronic equipment used for weddings, cultural programmes, and public events across the region.

Valuable Equipment Reduced to Ashes

According to eyewitnesses, most of the equipment stored inside the warehouse was completely destroyed before the flames could be extinguished. The loss has dealt a major setback to the business, which supplied event equipment to various parts of Odisha.

While no injuries or casualties were reported, the scale of property damage is substantial. Officials are yet to conduct a detailed assessment to determine the exact value of the losses.

Short Circuit Suspected as Possible Cause

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, preliminary reports suggest that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze.

Fire Services personnel and local authorities have launched a detailed probe to establish the circumstances that led to the incident and assess whether additional safety measures are required to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The incident has raised concerns about fire safety standards in commercial storage facilities, particularly those housing high-value electronic equipment and combustible materials.
