New Delhi: The Manipur government extended the ban on internet services till June 10 in an effort to prevent further disturbance in the violence-hit state. The ban on the internet was imposed on May 3.
In an order, the state government on Monday evening stated that the internet services will be suspended for five more days i.e. till 3 pm of June 10.
The violence in Manipur between the Hindu Meiteis and the tribal Kuki, who are Christians, erupted after a rally by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3.
Violence has gripped the entire state for now a month and the central government had to deploy paramilitary forces to bring the situation under control.
Around 10,000 Army and Assam Rifles personnel have been deployed in the state to restore peace.
