Deogarh: A man has been arrested by the Deogarh police on Sunday with 135 fake ₹500 notes and 20 fake ₹200 notes.
The arrested person has been identified as Binod Singh, a native of Brajrajnagar Gandhi Chhak area in Jharsuguda district, presently staying at Khapara Sahi in Deogarh police station limits.
According to reports, Binod was spotted at Expo Bazar near the private bus stand in Deogarh town buying articles by producing fake notes yesterday.
However, a shopkeeper grew suspicious and detained him with counterfeit notes. But, Binod managed to escape from the scene.
On the basis of the shopkeeper’s complaint, the Deogarh police investigated the incident and raided Binod’s house in Khapar Sahi.
During the raid, the cops seized 135 fake ₹500 notes and 20 fake ₹200 notes totalling Rs 69,500. The police also seized one pass boo, 14 ATM cards, six mobile phones and a Bolero car from the accused.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that Punei Oram of Saldega Village under Gurundia PS in Sundargarh District had given the fake notes of Rs 1 lakh in return of ₹30,000.
Following this, Punei was detained and during interrogation he revealed that Madhu Barik of Bargarh had supplied him the fake notes.
A special team has been reportedly formed and raids are being carried out at different areas to nab the mastermind behind this fake note racket, the police said.
On the other hand, the Deogarh police station have registered a case under Sections 120 B, /420/468/471/489 (A, B, C, D) and forwarded the accused Binod to the court while continuing the investigation of the fake note racket.
