Acting on credible intelligence, Keonjhar Police launched a major crackdown named Operation Baitarani against organised sand mafia networks operating across the district.
The coordinated raids covered 12 locations under Anandpur, Ghasipura, Nandipada, and Ghatagaon police limits.
During the operation, police seized over Rs 27 lakh in cash suspected to be proceeds from illegal sand trade, fake transit passes, multiple bank accounts, financial records, and more than 30 vehicles used for unlawful transportation. Superintendent of Police Nitin Kushalkar confirmed the seizures and said ten individuals linked to the racket have been detained for questioning and legal action.
Investigators are conducting financial analysis, document verification, and interrogation to trace the full network. The SP stated that strict action will be taken under laws related to organised crime, forgery, illegal mining, and criminal conspiracy. Authorities will also confiscate disproportionate assets acquired through illicit income.
Kushalkar added that Keonjhar Police remain committed to continuous enforcement against illegal mineral extraction and environmental exploitation. In 2025, the district registered 339 cases and arrested 508 persons. As of May 18, 2026, police have already registered 66 cases and arrested 112 individuals this year.
He reiterated that the force will pursue sustained action to dismantle organised mineral crime and protect natural resources across the district.
