A low-pressure system formed on Monday has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure zone as of Tuesday.
This system is now active over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal regions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Odisha, predicting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across various districts for the next three days.
The system is expected to maintain its strength for the next 24 hours, moving northwestward over the Bay of Bengal. By Wednesday, it may change its course toward the north-northeast direction, gradually weakening. Due to this, districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, and Puri remain on high alert with yellow warnings issued.
Regional Meteorologist Sanjeev Dwivedi shared that Odisha has already experienced relief from the heat due to recent rains in coastal and interior districts, including Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. Over the next two days, temperatures are anticipated to drop by 2-4 degrees, offering much-needed respite from the summer heat. Continuous thunderstorms and rainfall are expected to affect the state for four consecutive days.
