Iran Shares Image of Graves for Schoolgirls Allegedly Killed in Strike; Casualty Claims Disputed

Amid escalating hostilities involving Iran, the United States and Israel, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has shared a photograph purportedly showing graves prepared for schoolgirls killed in a strike in southern Iran.

The image, posted on X, shows long rows of freshly dug graves in what appears to be an open field in Minab. White chalk outlines mark individual burial plots, while mourners are seen gathered nearby.

Iran’s Claim of Civilian Casualties

According to Iranian officials, more than 160 schoolgirls were killed in what they described as a joint US-Israeli bombing of a primary school in Minab. Araghchi alleged that the victims were “innocent young girls” and condemned the attack in strong terms.

Iran’s mission in India echoed the statement in a separate post, describing the burial site as “small graves for little angels.”

Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA, citing a local prosecutor, reported that 96 additional individuals were injured in the strike.

However, the casualty figures have not been independently verified.

Military Responses and Disputed Claims

At the United Nations, Iran characterised the reported strike as a deliberate attack on civilian infrastructure and labelled it a war crime and a crime against humanity.

In response, Israeli military officials stated they were not aware of any strikes in the area mentioned by Iranian authorities. The US military said it was reviewing reports regarding possible civilian harm.

Visual Evidence and Ongoing Review

Verified videos circulating online reportedly show rescue workers clearing debris from a damaged school structure, retrieving school bags and searching through collapsed concrete slabs.

As tensions continue, independent confirmation of the incident and casualty numbers remains pending. The situation adds to mounting concerns over civilian safety amid widening regional conflict.
