A tragic lightning strike killed a mother and her daughter in Ninasapani village under Mundibeda panchayat of Raighar police limits in Nabarangpur district on Sunday.
The victims, identified as Daimati Muduli and her daughter Champa Muduli, had gone to collect Kusum leaves about 200 meters from their home. Heavy rain and thunderstorms struck the area, and lightning hit them while they stood near a tree. Both died instantly at the spot.
Locals rushed to the field after hearing the thunder and discovered the bodies. News of the incident spread quickly, plunging the village into grief. Residents described the atmosphere as deeply sorrowful, with many gathering to console the bereaved family.
Champa Muduli worked as a child care assistant at a local school. Her sudden death, along with her mother’s, has left the community devastated. Daimati Muduli leaves behind two sons and another daughter, adding to the family’s hardship.
Raighar police registered an unnatural death case and began an investigation. Authorities confirmed that the bodies will undergo post-mortem examination on Monday. Villagers demanded government support for the poor family, urging immediate relief measures.
