In a standout demonstration of swift law enforcement and judicial efficiency, the Jharsuguda Police have secured a conviction in a night burglary case within an extraordinary 17 days from the initial filing of the report.
The case—Rengali PS Case No. 239, registered on September 9, 2026, under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)—involved a late-night break-in at a Common Services Centre (CSC) located near Katarbaga School along NH-49. The perpetrator fled the scene with four second-hand mobile phones and two pairs of earbuds.
Rapid Investigation & Video-Recorded Seizure
Leading the probe, Sub-Inspector Samarendra Nayak of Rengali Police Station launched a prompt investigation that quickly led to the apprehension of 26-year-old Sanatan Kishan, a resident of Deheridhipa.
Following interrogation and disclosures made by the accused, police recovered two stolen Redmi mobile phones, a pair of earbuds, and the iron rod used in the break-in from Kishan’s residence. Standardising digital evidence protocols, the recovery and seizure proceedings were officially videographed.
From Charge-Sheet to Verdict in Days
Demonstrating remarkable speed without compromising procedure, SI Nayak completed the investigation and submitted the official charge-sheet on September 19, 2026—just ten days after the crime occurred.
The Court of Civil Judge (Jr. Division)-cum-JMFC, Lakhanpur framed charges and commenced taking evidence on September 21. By September 25, 2026, the court delivered its final verdict, finding Sanatan Kishan guilty under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) BNS.
