Harry Kane’s 67th-minute header against Panama made him England’s all-time leading World Cup scorer with 11 goals, surpassing Gary Lineker’s record of 10 and overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo in the all-time list.
Kane’s tally spans three editions: six goals in Russia 2018, two in Qatar 2022, and three so far in 2026. His achievement places him joint eighth in World Cup history, level with Jürgen Klinsmann and Sándor Kocsis, and just one goal behind Pelé.
The record strengthens England’s attacking legacy and keeps alive Kane’s chance of becoming the first player to win two World Cup Golden Boots, having claimed the award in 2018. He now leads England in both World Cup goals and overall international goals with 82, while also scoring 70 times for Bayern Munich and England in the 2025-26 season.
England’s victory confirmed them as Group L winners, setting up a Round of 32 clash with DR Congo. Kane, with three goals in this tournament, remains two behind Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot race. Scoring once more would match Pelé’s tally of 12, offering further opportunities to climb the all-time list.
