KL Rahul Urged to Leave Delhi Capitals if Rishabh Pant Returns Ahead of IPL 2027

The possibility of Rishabh Pant returning to Delhi Capitals ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season has sparked debate among cricket experts and fans.

Amid reports of a major trade deal involving Pant and spinner Kuldeep Yadav, former India pacer Dodda Ganesh has suggested that KL Rahul should consider leaving the franchise if the move goes through.

According to reports, discussions regarding Pant’s return to Delhi Capitals are at an advanced stage, with the proposed trade involving Kuldeep Yadav moving to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Dodda Ganesh Suggests Auction Route for KL Rahul

Reacting to the developments, former Karnataka and India fast bowler Dodda Ganesh expressed his opinion on social media.

“KL Rahul should ask for release and go to the auction if Pant comes back,” Ganesh wrote on X.

His comment has fueled discussions about Delhi Capitals’ future team structure and leadership plans if Pant returns to the franchise where he spent the majority of his IPL career.

Contrasting IPL 2026 Seasons for Pant and Rahul

The two wicketkeeper-batters experienced very different IPL 2026 campaigns.

Rishabh Pant, who joined Lucknow Super Giants for a record ₹27 crore, struggled to deliver consistent performances. He scored 312 runs during the season as LSG finished at the bottom of the points table. Following the disappointing campaign, Pant stepped down from the team’s captaincy.

In contrast, KL Rahul enjoyed one of his most productive IPL seasons. The experienced batter accumulated 593 runs in 14 matches and maintained an impressive strike rate of 174.41. His unbeaten 152 against Punjab Kings was one of the standout innings of the tournament.

Despite Rahul’s strong performances, Delhi Capitals narrowly missed out on a playoff berth and finished sixth in the standings.

Major Changes Expected at Delhi Capitals

Reports also indicate significant changes within the Delhi Capitals management structure.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is expected to join the franchise’s coaching setup. Pant and Yuvraj have worked closely in recent years, making the development particularly noteworthy if Pant’s return is finalized.

Additionally, former India captain Sourav Ganguly is expected to return as the head of cricket operations as JSW resumes a leading role in the franchise’s management.

Current head coach Hemang Badani’s future with the team remains uncertain following Delhi’s underwhelming IPL 2026 campaign.

Rishabh Pant’s Strong Connection With Delhi Capitals

Pant remains one of the most influential players in Delhi Capitals’ history. Between 2016 and 2024, he represented the franchise in 111 matches and captained the side across multiple seasons.

His potential return would mark one of the biggest player movements ahead of IPL 2027 and could significantly reshape Delhi Capitals’ plans for the future.

With trade discussions reportedly nearing completion, fans are now waiting for official confirmation from the franchises and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

What Could Happen Next?

If Pant rejoins Delhi Capitals, the franchise may need to rethink leadership roles, batting positions, and long-term squad planning. The situation could also influence KL Rahul’s future, especially if he seeks a larger leadership role elsewhere.

For now, all eyes remain on the expected blockbuster trade that could become one of the biggest IPL stories ahead of the 2027 season.
