In a swift disciplinary move following intense public outcry, Nabarangpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Partha Jagdish Kashyap has suspended Sub-Inspector (SI) Durga Prasad Brahma, the In-Charge of Singisari Police Outpost.
Following his suspension, the officer has been attached to the SP headquarters.
The incident came to light after local residents allegedly caught SI Brahma engaging in inappropriate activities with a young woman inside a closed room within the police outpost quarters overnight. Tipped off by sources regarding the alleged illicit behaviour on the official premises, disgruntled villagers locked the quarter from the outside.
The story quickly went viral in local news outlets and media platforms, turning the outpost into an epicentre of public debate and scrutiny.
On Wednesday morning, the quarter was unlocked in the presence of local community representatives and villagers. According to eyewitnesses, the outpost officer exited the room first, followed shortly after by the woman, who left the scene in a car heading toward Umerkote via Rajpur.
Although SI Durga Prasad Brahma initially dismissed the allegations, claiming there was no truth to the incident, the widespread media reports and village testimony prompted senior police officials to intervene immediately. An official inquiry has been initiated, and further departmental proceedings are expected to follow.
