India delivered a sharp rebuke to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations General Assembly, stating the grouping is “unable to distinguish between the victim and the perpetrator” regarding India’s measured actions against cross-border terror infrastructure operating out of Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoK).
Delivering India’s national statement at the UNGA Sixth Committee on ‘Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism,’ West Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb firmly asserted New Delhi’s right to defend its citizens against cross-border threats.
”India Has Full Right to Protect Its People”
Responding to remarks made by the OIC Chair regarding India’s defensive counter-terrorism measures, Deb condemned the statement for lacking factual accuracy and ignoring the reality of state-sponsored militancy.
”I now respond to the statement made by the OIC Chair regarding India’s focused and measured action against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed,” Deb stated. “It is unfortunate that the speaker is unable to distinguish between fact and fiction and cannot differentiate between the victim and the perpetrator.”
He emphasized that India will not tolerate the consequences of cross-border aggression:
”India has the full right to protect its people against terrorism on the border coming from Pakistan. The consequences of being involved in terrorism will not be tolerated.”
Deb is currently leading a visiting delegation of 15 Indian Members of Parliament participating in the annual UN familiarisation week.
Citing the Human Cost of Terrorism
Underlining that terrorism remains a daily reality rather than an abstract concept for India, Deb referenced the tragic April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists.
He described the assault as a calculated strike against Indian sovereignty, executed by networks that continue to enjoy safe havens, material support, and state patronage across the western border. Reaffirming India’s zero-tolerance policy, Deb invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global pledge: “We consider that even a single attack is one too many and even a single life lost is one too many.”
OIC Urged to Focus on Human Rights Abuses in PoK
Rejecting the OIC’s unwarranted references to Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian representative advised the grouping to redirect its attention toward ongoing civil unrest and human rights violations in PoK, particularly in regions like Rawalakot.
Deb noted that months of popular protests against local election irregularities and administrative crackdowns in PoK highlight the ground reality, calling the OIC’s silence on these abuses a clear reflection of “willful blindness, bigotry, and intolerance.”
