A woman died, and four others sustained serious injuries in a road accident near Gunugunia Chhak under Kalampur police limits in Kalahandi district on Tuesday.
The mishap occurred when a Bolero lost control and rammed into a roadside tree.
Sources said the victims were returning to Mangalpur village under Jayapatna block after attending a wedding ceremony in Pahantia. The driver reportedly lost control near Gunugunia Chhak, causing the vehicle to crash violently.
Local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the injured passengers. They were taken to Junagarh Community Health Centre for treatment. The deceased woman, identified as Minurani Sahu (31), was declared dead at the scene. Her body was later sent for post-mortem examination at Jayapatna CHC and handed over to her family.
Police reached the site soon after receiving information, seized the damaged vehicle, and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
