Balangir district administration extended the holiday for schools, colleges, and vocational institutions until April 25 due to the prevailing heatwave.
Earlier, the closure was announced from April 18 to April 21, but District Collector Gaurav Shivaji Islawar confirmed the extension to safeguard students and staff.
All schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres across the district will remain closed during this period. Authorities clarified that examinations already scheduled will continue as planned, ensuring academic timelines remain intact.
Officials emphasised that the decision reflects the administration’s proactive approach to protecting children and young adults from extreme weather conditions. Parents and teachers welcomed the move, noting that the scorching temperatures had made regular attendance unsafe.
The directive also highlighted the importance of balancing academic responsibilities with health and safety. Education officers assured that necessary adjustments would be made to minimise disruption once institutions reopen.
