A tragic incident occurred in Bhubaneswar late Saturday night when a man jumped into the Kuakhai River from the Tankapani Bridge. The deceased has been identified as Bhavani Shankar Khatei, a resident of Barik Sahi in Old Town.
Reports state that Khatei arrived at the bridge on his scooter between 10:30 pm and 11 pm, parked it, and suddenly leapt into the river. Alerted by locals, teams from the Balianta Fire Station and Bhubaneswar Fire Station rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.
His body was recovered on Sunday morning. Police have seized the scooter from the bridge and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Family members have not yet disclosed the reason behind Khatei’s extreme step.
