Kalahandi: A vigilance court in Bhawanipatna convicted the former Sarpanch of Ardi panchayat in Kalahandi district for demanding and accepting a bribe.
The accused has been identified as Phulmati Majhi, Ex-Sarapanch of Adri Panchayat, Th. Rampur Block in Kalahandi district.
Majhi was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case vide Spl. Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna TR No.14/2015 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000 from a complainant to issue an engagement order for the post of Supply Assistant (Jogana Sahayaka) in his favour at Th. Rampur Block.
The accused Majhi was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 1 year and a fine of Rs.2,000 and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 2 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.
The court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 6 months and a fine of Rs.1,000 and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 1 month more for the offence U/s 7 PC Act,1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
