Fresh revelations have emerged in the custodial death of differently‑abled youth Sushant Sahu at Kabisuryanagar police station, linking the incident to alleged irregularities in a nearby stone quarry operation.

Sources reported that the case originated from an assault on a woman near Bhatkhali hill, where illegal stone mining was underway. Her husband and son rescued her, and photos from the scene later went viral on social media. Family members alleged that police detained Sushant to validate a fabricated version of events and tortured him in custody.

The FIR reportedly omitted Sushant’s name, while viral photos and documents suggest inconsistencies in the timeline. Questions have surfaced about how a trainee IPS officer served as the station in‑charge and allegedly wrote the report on blank paper. Locals claimed the officer acted in coordination with a mining official, whose presence at the quarry during the confrontation has intensified public debate.

The viral photo showing a man wearing a turban at the quarry site has fueled speculation about the mining officer’s involvement. Residents accused the duo of running an intimidation campaign under the guise of enforcement, collecting illegal revenue and assaulting locals.

Human rights teams have begun examining CCTV footage from May 25 to 31 at Kabisuryanagar police station and nearby medical facilities. They are verifying which officers were on duty during the incident. Despite ongoing investigations, the victim’s family has yet to receive compensation, prompting criticism of the government’s silence.
