The death of a NEET aspirant from Maharashtra’s Nagpur has intensified the ongoing controversy surrounding examination leaks and re-examinations, prompting sharp reactions from Opposition leaders across the country.

The student, originally from Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj district, reportedly died by suicide after expressing concerns about having to appear for the medical entrance examination again. A note recovered by her family revealed her anxiety about repeating the test despite preparing extensively and expecting a strong performance.

The incident has reignited concerns over the impact of repeated examination irregularities on students and their families.

Rahul Gandhi Blames ‘Broken System’

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a strong attack on the Centre, describing the tragedy as a consequence of a “corrupt and broken system.” He questioned why recurring examination controversies continue despite widespread criticism and demanded accountability from those responsible for managing the education sector.

Gandhi also criticized the government for failing to implement meaningful reforms despite repeated allegations of paper leaks and administrative lapses.

Kejriwal Calls for Action Against ‘Education Mafia’

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal also reacted to the incident, arguing that simply conducting examinations again cannot address the deeper issues affecting students.

He called for decisive action against what he described as an “education mafia” and emphasized that students deserve a fair, transparent, and reliable examination system. Kejriwal further stated that recurring paper leak controversies have created uncertainty and stress among millions of aspirants.

TMC Joins Criticism Over Examination Irregularities

The Trinamool Congress expressed condolences to the student’s family and accused the Centre of failing to protect the integrity of national examinations.

The party said repeated examination controversies have damaged trust among students and parents, urging authorities to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents.

Family Discovers Emotional Note

According to reports, the student’s family found a handwritten note after returning to their hometown following her funeral. In the note, she reportedly expressed fears about not being able to perform equally well in a re-examination despite her hard work and preparation.

The note has become a focal point in the broader debate over examination management and student mental health.

Growing Debate Over Exam Reforms

The tragedy comes amid nationwide concerns regarding paper leaks, cancelled examinations, and demands for stronger safeguards in competitive tests such as NEET.

Education experts and student groups have increasingly called for reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and examination security. The latest incident has further amplified those demands, with many questioning whether existing mechanisms are sufficient to protect students’ futures.

As political reactions continue to intensify, the incident has once again placed the spotlight on examination governance and the need for comprehensive reforms in India’s education system.
