England’s Jos Buttler has stormed past Rohit Sharma to become the second-highest run-scorer in T20I history, following his 80-run blitz against Sri Lanka in the first T20I.
Buttler now has 4,292 runs, eclipsing Rohit’s tally of 4,231. Pakistan’s Babar Azam leads the chart with 4,596 runs.
Buttler’s knock was complemented by captain Harry Brook, who smashed an unbeaten 114 off 49 balls. Their 128-run stand powered England to a mammoth 254/4, before Sri Lanka folded for 135, handing England a 119-run victory.
Brook praised Buttler’s consistency and highlighted their running between the wickets: “Every time we’ve got a decent score, Jos has been there as well… today we ran 22 twos, which is phenomenal.”
Sri Lanka struggled from the outset, losing three wickets in the powerplay. Dunith Wellalage top-scored with 33, while Dasun Shanaka added 24. England’s emphatic win set the tone for the series.
