India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah continues to earn global admiration following his match-winning performance against England national cricket team in the semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The Indian fast bowler played a decisive role in India’s narrow seven-run victory at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. His exceptional death-over bowling turned the match in India’s favor and secured a place in the tournament final.
Match-Winning Spell in High-Pressure Situation
Bumrah delivered an outstanding spell in the final overs, conceding just 14 runs in his last two overs while bowling against England’s in-form batter Jacob Bethell, who scored a century, and all-rounder Sam Curran. His disciplined bowling under pressure restricted England’s chase and ultimately sealed India’s victory.
The performance once again highlighted Bumrah’s reputation as one of the most reliable and effective fast bowlers in modern cricket.
High Praise from England Legends
Former England fast bowlers Steven Finn and Stuart Broad shared their admiration for Bumrah during a podcast discussion after the semifinal.
Finn described the Indian pacer as being on a completely different level compared to other contemporary bowlers.
“There are great bowlers and good bowlers, but then there’s Jasprit Bumrah. Right now, he sits above everyone else. Even bowlers like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are not at the same level at the moment,” Finn said.
He added that Bumrah’s performances across formats have strengthened the argument that he could be considered the greatest fast bowler of all time.
Comparison with Legendary Fast Bowlers
Broad, who is among the few fast bowlers to surpass 600 wickets in Test cricket, supported Finn’s assessment. He acknowledged the greatness of historic legends such as Malcolm Marshall, Richard Hadlee, Curtly Ambrose, and Glenn McGrath but emphasized that Bumrah’s performances in the modern era are exceptional.
Broad said that while comparing players from different eras is difficult, Bumrah’s ability to dominate high-scoring T20 matches sets him apart.
According to Broad, Bumrah’s bowling is “the best he has seen live,” especially considering the pressure and aggressive batting that define today’s T20 cricket.
India Set for T20 World Cup Final
Following the semifinal victory, the India national cricket team will face the New Zealand national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The title clash is scheduled to take place at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, where Bumrah is expected to play a key role once again as India aims to secure the championship.
