A series of explosions rocked Iran’s capital after Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple oil storage facilities in and around Tehran, triggering massive fires that lit up the night sky.
Videos circulating on social media showed towering flames and thick smoke rising from oil depot sites following the strikes late Saturday. The attacks mark the first known assault on Iran’s oil infrastructure since tensions escalated in the ongoing conflict involving Israel, Iran, and the United States.
Explosions Shake Tehran and Nearby Cities
Residents across Tehran reported hearing powerful explosions that rattled buildings and homes late Saturday night.
Iran’s Ministry of Oil confirmed that several fuel storage depots in Tehran and Alborz provinces were hit in the strikes. One of the targeted facilities was located in Karaj, west of the capital.
Local media reports also indicated that a major oil refinery located near the southern district of Shahr Rey stands close to one of the damaged storage facilities.
Israeli Military Confirms Strike on Energy Sites
The Israeli military stated that it carried out strikes on fuel storage locations and energy complexes believed to be used by Iran’s armed forces.
According to the statement, the operation was a “significant strike” aimed at dismantling military infrastructure linked to the Iranian government.
Earlier in the day, Israeli forces also targeted Mehrabad Airport, one of Iran’s busiest domestic aviation hubs, intensifying fears of a broader regional escalation.
Fires and Thick Smoke Seen Across the Capital
Footage shared online showed large fireballs and dense smoke clouds rising into the sky from multiple locations.
One video captured a massive blaze near a highway leading toward Lavasan, an upscale suburb northeast of the capital.
Another major strike reportedly hit the Shahran oil depot, located in northwestern Tehran. The facility had previously been targeted during military operations earlier in the conflict.
Rising Casualties in the Escalating Conflict
The ongoing conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States has led to growing casualties.
According to Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, more than 1,300 Iranian civilians have been killed, with thousands injured since hostilities intensified.
Iranian retaliatory attacks have reportedly killed 10 people in Israel, while six US service members have also died during the conflict.
Global Impact as Oil Prices Surge
The escalating conflict has triggered significant global economic concerns.
Oil prices have surged to multi-year highs, largely due to disruptions in shipping routes and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial corridor for global oil transportation.
Several Gulf countries have also reported missile and drone attacks, raising fears that the conflict could widen further across the Middle East.
Iran has stated that it will continue strikes against regional targets as the war moves into its second week, increasing geopolitical uncertainty across the region.
