The 47th Sarala Puraskar, one of Odisha’s most prestigious literary honours, will be awarded to noted poet, essayist, and former CSIR‑IMMT scientist Dr Ashutosh Parida for his acclaimed poetry collection Bishwas De Pruthwi, published in 2024 by Prabha Publication.
The award, instituted by the Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT) in 1980, carries a cash prize of Rs 7 lakh, a citation, and a copper plaque. The ceremony will be held in Bhubaneswar on October 25, 2026.
This year’s shortlist featured seven remarkable works spanning poetry, stories, novels, short stories, and drama — reflecting the diversity of Odia literature. The final jury, comprising eminent writers and academics, selected Parida’s work for its literary brilliance and cultural resonance.
In addition, IMPaCT announced the Ila‑Bansidhar Panda Kala Samman 2026, honouring lifetime excellence in the arts. Odissi maestro Guru Durga Charan Ranbir, a Padma Shri awardee, and renowned sculptor‑educator Shri Damodar Behera will each receive Rs 2.5 lakh, a citation, and a copper plaque.
IMPaCT, the charitable arm of IMFA, has long championed Odia literature and heritage. Alongside the Sarala Puraskar, it also instituted the Ekalabya Puraskar in 1993 to recognise sporting excellence, reinforcing its cultural mission across Odisha.
