Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch has arrested a man, one of the masterminds of the job fraud racket, which had duped aspirants in 17 states including Odisha.
The accused, identified as Dharampal Singh, has been arrested from Bihar.
The accused is being brought to Bhubaneswar on transit remand for his production before the Court of SDJM here.
Singh was the Secretary of ‘Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan’ having its registered office in New Delhi and other offices in Mumbai, Bhopal and Dehradun. The scamsters had developed a website (www.grks.org) similar to that of a government website displaying job advertisements.
They invited online applications for various jobs mentioning the educational qualification and the remuneration. Later, to gain the attention of the job seekers, they also offered reservations and concessional fees.
Lakhs of aspirants had applied for the posts from 2020 onwards by paying the required application fees.
Though the applicants were made to sit in the online examination, none of them were given the appointment.
After a complaint was lodged, police had registered a case and initiated a probe into the matter.
