India has welcomed the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the temporary truce will lead to long-term peace and stability in West Asia.
In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs emphasised the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the ongoing conflict. The government reiterated that peaceful engagement remains the most effective path toward lasting resolution.
India Calls for De-escalation Through Dialogue
India stated that it has consistently advocated for reducing tensions in the region. Authorities highlighted that constructive communication between all parties is essential to prevent further escalation and ensure regional stability.
The statement also acknowledged the humanitarian and economic consequences of the conflict, noting that it has caused widespread disruption and uncertainty.
Focus on Global Trade and Energy Security
India underlined the importance of maintaining uninterrupted global trade routes, particularly through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
This narrow maritime corridor handles a significant portion of the world’s oil supply. Any disruption in this route can impact global energy markets, fuel prices, and supply chains.
The government expressed its expectation for “unimpeded freedom of navigation and the smooth flow of commerce” through the region.
Ceasefire Brings Temporary Relief
The ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran aims to halt escalating hostilities for two weeks. It also includes provisions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, easing concerns over energy supply disruptions.
The conflict had intensified under the leadership of Donald Trump and Iran’s leadership, contributing to volatility in global markets.
India Reaffirms Commitment to Peace
India reiterated its long-standing position of supporting peaceful conflict resolution through diplomatic channels. The government called on all stakeholders to work collaboratively toward sustained peace and stability in the region.
