Ireland confirmed a T20I series against India in June, while Paul Stirling announced his decision to step down as captain of the T20 side.
India will tour Ireland for a short T20I series before heading to England for their white-ball fixtures in July. The series will take place after India’s one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, scheduled to conclude on June 20. Dates for the Ireland matches are expected to fall between late June and early July.
Stirling stepped down following Ireland’s disappointing T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, where they exited in the group stage with only one win. He will continue as ODI captain, ensuring Ireland now has separate leaders for each format. Stirling emphasised his commitment to the team, stating that stepping away from T20 captaincy allows him to focus on his performance while supporting the new leader.
Ireland’s high-performance director Graham West confirmed Stirling’s decision and highlighted the upcoming India series as the new captain’s first major challenge. Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector are considered frontrunners for the role.
