With their backs firmly against the wall, India have won the toss and chosen to bat first in the fourth T20I against England at the County Ground in Bristol.
After suffering back-to-back defeats, including a heavy loss in Nottingham, Shreyas Iyer’s side know there is no margin for error left in the five-match series.
A loss today would hand England an unassailable 3-0 lead and end India’s hopes of a comeback. A win, however, keeps the contest alive and gives the visitors breathing space heading into the final game.
The visitors will be eager to put the recent setback behind them. Bristol now presents an opportunity to rewrite the narrative. A victory would not only hand Iyer his first win as India’s T20I captain but also inject fresh belief into a squad that has come under intense scrutiny.
India Playing XI
Injuries have forced changes. Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy were ruled out after sustaining hamstring injuries in the third T20I. The updated playing XI features a blend of explosive youth and experience:
- Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
- Abhishek Sharma
- Ishan Kishan (wk)
- Shreyas Iyer (c)
- Tilak Varma (vc)
- Shivam Dube
- Washington Sundar
- Axar Patel
- Prince Yadav
- Arshdeep Singh
- Prasidh Krishna
Much of the focus will be on India’s batting unit, which possesses far too much firepower to endure another collective failure. Young gun Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be under the spotlight to deliver on the big stage, while vice-captain Tilak Varma will be expected to provide the clutch finishing that has defined his recent white-ball form.
England have held the upper hand so far, but India remain the reigning T20 World Champions for a reason. With the series at stake, an unwanted winless streak looming, and an opportunity to restore pride, Bristol could well become the venue where India’s fightback begins. The match gets underway shortly.
England Playing XI
- Harry Brook (c)
- Phil Salt
- Jos Buttler
- Jacob Bethell
- Tom Banton
- Will Jacks
- Sam Curran
- Rehan Ahmed
- Jofra Archer
- Adil Rashid
- Josh Tongue
INDIA CAPTAIN SHREYAS IYER:
We’re going to bat first , it’s a must win game now, and we’ll play with that intent. We’ve shown fearlessness in the first two matches, but execution hasn’t been at the level we wanted. Today is a fresh start, and the boys are in high spirits. The last game is history; we have to start afresh. Positivity is about awareness , reading the environment, adapting quickly to the wicket, and even factoring in the wind. Tactically, if those things are sorted, results will follow. The surface looks good, with a decent amount of grass, so we’ll see how it plays from ball one. We’ve made two changes due to injurie.Varun and Harshit miss out, with Washington Sundar and Prasidh Krishna coming in.
ENGLAND CAPTAIN HARRY BROOK:
Yeah, we would have batted first as well , it looks a very good surface. Like Shreyas mentioned, there’s a nice even spread of grass, so we’ll see how it plays. We were mighty pleased with the last performance , very clinical, very professional. We adapted well to the conditions, communicated strongly, and it was a superb team effort. Coming into this third game, it’s an important one: win here and we win the series. That would be lovely, but the focus is on repeating what we did the other night, adapt quickly, communicate well, and back ourselves. The beauty of this side is the depth , seven or eight players contributing game after game, whether with bat, ball, or in the field. That’s the strength of the XI we’ve picked. For today, we’ve made one change: Rehan Ahmed comes in for Liam Dawson
