India A signed off the three-match unofficial 50-over series on a high note, defeating Australia A by 49 runs at the CAP Siechem Ground.
The result denied the visitors a clean sweep, but Australia A still walked away with a 2-1 series triumph after earlier victories by 125 and 69 runs.
Asked to bat first, India A raced to 82 without loss in 10 overs as openers Priyansh Arya (49 off 45) and Prabhsimran Singh (39 off 34) attacked with freedom. The middle order then collapsed dramatically. Liam Scott and Ben Dwarshuis (3/38) struck regularly, reducing the hosts to 118/5 by the 20th over. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (33) offered brief resistance, but it was left to the lower order to salvage the innings.
Suryansh Shedge walked in at No. 7 and produced a brisk, match-turning 66 off 60 balls. He found the perfect ally in Vipraj Nigam (40 off 44), and the pair added a vital 85 runs for the seventh wicket. Their partnership dragged India A from trouble to a competitive 275 all out in 47.3 overs. Will Sutherland (3/44) and Dwarshuis did the bulk of the damage for Australia A.
Chasing 276, Australia A started solidly. Josh Philippe struck a fluent 56, and the visitors looked comfortable at 177/3 in the 36th over. Then the Indian attack found its rhythm. Gurjapneet Singh’s variations earned him three wickets (3/56), while Yash Thakur (2/35) and Nishant Sindhu (2/42) applied the squeeze. From a position of strength, Australia A lost their last seven wickets for just 49 runs and were bowled out for 226 in 46.2 overs. Nathan McSweeney (39) and Lachlan Shaw (31) were among the batters who fell as the chase unravelled.
Vipraj Nigam was named Player of the Match for his dual contribution with bat and ball, while Nathan McSweeney claimed the Player of the Series award. The match itself carried no series implications, yet India A’s lower-order fightback and clinical bowling provided a timely reminder of the depth available in the home squad ahead of bigger challenges.
