On the sidelines of the SCO summit in China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing the urgent need to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

PM Modi welcomed recent efforts toward peace and urged all parties to move forward constructively.

“We have been continuously discussing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. We welcome all the recent efforts for peace. We hope that all parties will move forward constructively. A way has to be found to end the conflict as soon as possible and establish lasting peace. This is the call of the entire humanity,” said PM Modi, according to NDTV.

Highlighting the strength of India-Russia ties, PM Modi noted that the two nations have stood shoulder to shoulder during difficult times, and that close people-to-people ties are vital for global stability. He called the regular high-level interactions between Moscow and New Delhi a reflection of the depth of the special partnership.

The Prime Minister confirmed that President Putin is scheduled to visit India in December for the 23rd India-Russia Summit, a visit that is eagerly anticipated by 1.40 crore Indians.

“Today’s meeting is expected to provide a significant boost to the India-Russia relationship. Russia and India enjoy very good relations,” PM Modi added, as both leaders exchanged views on regional and global issues.

The meeting was preceded by the two leaders boarding the same car to the venue of their bilateral talks, highlighting the cordial rapport between them.
