Odisha is set to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall as a low pressure area forms over the coastal regions of Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its morning bulletin on Saturday.
An upper‑air cyclonic circulation over south Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, is likely to trigger the formation of the system within the next 12 hours. The low pressure is expected to move west‑northwestwards along the monsoon trough over the next two days, affecting parts of North Odisha, Jharkhand, and North Chhattisgarh.
⚠️ Orange and Yellow Warnings
The IMD has issued an orange warning for Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. A yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, and Balangir.
🌩️ Thunderstorm and Wind Alert
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely in several districts, including Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Khordha, Nayagada, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Authorities have advised residents to stay alert, avoid waterlogged areas, and monitor official updates as the system intensifies.
