Popular Pakistani actress Hania Aamir landed in hot water after social media users alleged she launched a new Instagram account specifically to connect with her Indian fans following her main account being restricted in India.
The controversy erupted late Monday after netizens discovered a new handle, @naaamtousunahogaa, sparking accusations of opportunism and betrayal.
One post from the account read: “Ye mere andar downfall me bhi mauj masti karne ki himmat aa kaha se rahi hai (sic).” Indian fans welcomed the move, but it instantly drew sharp criticism from Pakistani social media users who accused Hania of trying to woo Indian audiences and sidestep the ongoing ban on Pakistani artists in India.
Facing growing online outrage, Hania deleted the account. Her team later issued a formal clarification, denying any career motives behind the move. “There’s a misunderstanding. Hania is not trying to reach India for work or followers. The new account was created after Instagram deleted a private account, and it wasn’t set to private yet, which caused the confusion,” the statement read.
The clarification further stated, “Let’s be clear—this has nothing to do with seeking opportunities in India. We know her heart.”
In a separate development, Hania had recently condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed 26 lives, calling it a “tragedy for all humanity.” She posted, “My heart is with the innocent lives affected. In pain, in grief, and in hope—we are one.”
Amid the account ban in India, Indian fans reportedly used VPNs to access her content. One user commented on her photo using VPN access, to which Hania replied, “Ro dungi.”
The episode highlights the delicate cultural and political line that artists from both sides of the border continue to walk in times of heightened tensions.
