The Odisha Assembly witnessed uproar as opposition members stalled proceedings for the fourth consecutive day, demanding the resignation of the Health Minister over the SCB fire incident.
During Question Hour and Zero Hour, BJD and Congress legislators raised slogans and created chaos inside the House. BJP members attempted to present constituency issues, but the noise drowned out ministerial replies. Speaker Surama Padhy convened all-party meetings to restore order, but no consensus emerged.
Opposition MLAs shouted slogans like “Ram Naam Satya Hai” and displayed posters. BJD legislators tried to approach the Speaker’s chair, clashing with security personnel. Congress MLA Nilamadhab Hikaka and BJD MLA Yogesh Singh climbed the reporters’ table to intensify their protest. BJD MLA Arun Sahoo dragged a chair toward the Speaker’s podium, escalating tensions further.
The state government suspended four fire officers and ordered two inquiries into the SCB blaze. BJP leaders condemned the opposition’s disruption, urging them to join discussions instead of politicising the tragedy. They argued that the government acted swiftly within two days of the incident.
