Ganesh Chaturthi, one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals, will be observed across India with devotion and grandeur on August 27, 2025.

The festival, which marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, is one where communities come together to welcome Bappa with processions, decorations, and devotional music.

Festival Date & Puja Timings

The most auspicious time for the Ganesh Chaturthi Puja falls during the midday period (Madhyahna), considered sacred as per Vedic traditions. Devotees bring idols of Lord Ganesha home during this time, accompanied by chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya.

Moon Sighting: Times to Avoid

As per Hindu beliefs, sighting the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi can bring about a curse of false accusations. To avoid this, devotees must refrain from looking at the moon during these timings:

  • August 26, 2025: 01:54 PM to 08:29 PM

  • August 27, 2025: 09:28 AM to 08:57 PM

Ganesh Visarjan 2025

The grand farewell of Lord Ganesha, known as Ganesh Visarjan, will take place on September 6, 2025 (Anant Chaturdashi). While many devotees keep the idol for 11 days, others may choose 1.5, 3, 5, or 7 days before immersion, depending on family traditions.

Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and harbinger of prosperity. The festival is not only about religious devotion but also about community bonding, cultural programs, and spiritual awakening.

Bringing Lord Ganesha home symbolizes inviting positivity and wisdom into one’s life. The belief is that during these days, Lord Ganesha blesses households with happiness, knowledge, and peace.

Puja Rituals to Follow

  1. Preparation: Clean the house and especially the designated place for installing the idol.

  2. Decoration: Use flowers, lights, and rangolis to adorn the puja area.

  3. Idol Installation: Place the idol on a wooden plank as per the muhurat.

  4. Offerings:

    • Yellow flowers or durva grass garland

    • Lighting of a ghee diya

    • 11 blades of durva grass

    • Modaks and boondi laddoos, Lord Ganesha’s favorite sweets

  5. Chants and Bhajans: Recite Vedic mantras, stotrams, and devotional songs to invoke blessings.

  6. Aarti: Conclude the puja with the chanting of “Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Deva”.

Devotees spend the day in prayers, singing bhajans, and enjoying festive meals dedicated to Bappa.

Celebrations Across India

  • Maharashtra: Known for its grand processions, community pandals, and cultural performances.

  • Karnataka & Goa: Homes and temples are beautifully decorated with flowers and lights.

  • Madhya Pradesh: Large idols and vibrant public celebrations are held.

The festival unites people in devotion, music, and festivities, making it one of the most colorful and spiritually uplifting events in India.
