Jharsuguda Railway Station plunged into chaos on Tuesday morning as thick plumes of smoke engulfed the premises after a massive fire erupted around 11 a.m., triggering panic among passengers and staff.
Fire services personnel rushed to the spot immediately and launched operations to control the blaze. Consequently, authorities acted swiftly to stop the fire from spreading further. As a precaution, officials evacuated all passengers from the platforms and later confirmed that no casualties had been reported.
Meanwhile, security agencies, including the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and Jharsuguda police, closely monitored the situation. Moreover, preliminary reports suggested that a short circuit may have sparked the fire, which also disrupted the station’s power supply.
Furthermore, the blaze damaged key infrastructure such as the Station Master’s chamber, ticket counters, and sections of the railway line. However, officials explained that the exact extent of the damage is still under assessment.
Railway sources added that train services at Jharsuguda will remain affected until the situation is fully controlled and power supply is restored. Finally, authorities emphasised that Jharsuguda Railway Station, a crucial hub under the Chakradharpur Division of the South Eastern Railway zone, plays a vital role in connecting passengers and goods across India from Odisha.
