India Was Prepared for Ground Offensive During Operation Sindoor, Says Army Chief

India had completed large-scale military mobilisation and was fully prepared for a ground offensive during Operation Sindoor, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi revealed on Tuesday amid continued tensions with Pakistan.

Speaking at a public event, General Dwivedi said India had taken all necessary steps to respond to any escalation following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists in April 2025. The operation was launched as a decisive response to terrorism targeting civilians.

The Army Chief stated that while the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) remains sensitive, it is firmly under control. His remarks come shortly after reports of multiple drones spotted near the LoC, raising security concerns in the region.

Operation Sindoor Still Active

General Dwivedi confirmed that Operation Sindoor, initiated in May 2025, is still underway, with Indian forces maintaining heightened vigilance.

“As long as Operation Sindoor continues, our surveillance and preparedness will remain at the highest level. We have already implemented all required actions,” he said while responding to a question on terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

According to intelligence inputs shared by the Army Chief, nearly eight terror camps are believed to be operational:

  • Two camps are located opposite the International Border

  • Six camps are positioned across the Line of Control

He added that some level of training or presence continues in these camps and warned that India will act decisively if any hostile activity is detected in the future.

Background of Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was launched after India accused The Resistance Front (TRF)—an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba—of carrying out the Pahalgam attack. Although TRF and Pakistan denied involvement, India carried out coordinated strikes across terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK.

The tri-services operation, involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, targeted nine terror camps, leading to a four-day military standoff between India and Pakistan. The period saw blackouts, air raid sirens, and heightened alert along the LoC and International Border.
