In a major boost to the state’s industrial and agricultural landscape, Silicon Valley-based high-technology firm FarmX has submitted a landmark Rs 1,000 crore investment proposal to the Government of Odisha.
The ambitious project aims to position Odisha as an advanced manufacturing and export powerhouse for autonomous electric tractors, artificial intelligence software, robotics, and intelligent farm systems.
The high-level FarmX delegation—led by Chief Operating Officer Premal Ashar and Head of AI Lalit Bhatt—met with Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, key officials from the Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy departments, and Additional Chief Secretary (E&IT) Shri Vishal Kumar Dev in Bhubaneswar.
Driving Deep-Technology and Local Employment
Welcoming the proposal, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo emphasised Odisha’s proactive push to attract global pioneers in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and electric mobility.
“Our vision is to empower local youth with high-skilled jobs while fundamentally boosting agricultural productivity through deep-technology adoption,” noted Shri Singh Deo.
The proposed project features a state-of-the-art manufacturing campus seamlessly integrated with a smart precision farming initiative. Designed to drive economic growth, the facility is projected to generate 1,120 direct and 3,700 indirect jobs in specialised technology fields. Once operational, the campus targets an annual production capacity of 1,000 autonomous electric tractors and 1 lakh field-sensing units catering to both domestic and international markets.
Bringing Intelligence to Local Fields
Beyond manufacturing, the initiative introduces cutting-edge agricultural solutions directly to local farmers via FarmMap, FarmX’s open-architecture platform. By leveraging satellite imagery, patented OSMO soil moisture sensors, and a regional-language mobile application in Odia, the system delivers real-time farm intelligence and automated irrigation. This technology is engineered to optimise water, fertiliser, and pesticide usage, ensuring sustainable and efficient farming practices.
The proposal is currently under active discussion, reflecting Odisha’s steadfast commitment to providing ready infrastructure, rapid policy support, and global market connectivity for pioneering global industries.
