Elected representatives often face public scrutiny during natural disasters, but a routine site visit took an ugly turn for Udala MLA Bhaskar Madhei.
The legislator recently faced an uncomfortable situation while visiting a flood-affected area in the Mayurbhanj district, with a video of the incident quickly circulating across social media platforms.
The Confrontation Caught on Camera
The viral video purportedly shows a local man using obscene language to abuse the MLA and allegedly attempting to assault him during his tour. While Madhei is seen trying to calmly reason with the individual, the man continues his aggressive behaviour. Visible displeasure is also captured on the MLA’s face as he responds to the conduct.
MLA Clarifies the Incident
Recounting the sequence of events, MLA Madhei explained that he had visited the inundated area purely to take stock of the ground reality and evaluate the crisis. During his rounds, he noticed a youth distributing free food to victims and paused to thank him for his humanitarian initiative.
According to Madhei, another youth—allegedly under the influence of alcohol—then approached him, hurled abuses, and accused him of showing up solely to seek votes, behaving entirely inappropriately.
While the MLA admitted to feeling irritated by the man’s belligerent behaviour, he maintained that the video clip being circulated on social media has exaggerated the gravity of the incident. Despite his clarifications, the episode has ignited widespread discussion and debate across digital platforms regarding security and public interactions during crises.
