The Brahmapur Sadar Police have arrested 13 individuals in connection with a major episode of mob violence, illegal confinement, obstruction of official duty, and destruction of government property that unfolded in Kukudakhandi Harijan Sahi.
The tense sequence of events began on the afternoon of September 14, 2026, when an armed gang of 8 to 10 individuals arrived on motorcycles in Kukudakhandi Bauri Sahi carrying deadly weapons, including swords. The gang escalated tensions by hurling two jute bombs, creating widespread panic among residents.
In response, locals intercepted and apprehended two members of the armed gang, seizing their vehicles—a Bajaj Pulsar and a Scooty. However, the situation quickly spiralled into vigilante violence. One of the captured gang members was severely assaulted, suffering critical bleeding injuries, while the other was unlawfully locked inside a local community room for hours.
When a local police team rushed to the scene to restore order and execute rescue operations, they were met with severe hostility. A hostile mob blocked the officers from performing their lawful duties, pelted stones that damaged a police vehicle, and subjected personnel to verbal abuse and threats. The trapped victim remained confined under lock and key until the early hours of the morning. It required the high-level intervention of senior police officers, additional forces, and the Executive Magistrate-cum-Tahasildar of Kukudakhandi to finally rescue the victim and rush him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Brahmapur for emergency treatment.
Following a plain-paper FIR filed by Inspector Suchitra Parida, Inspector-in-Charge of the B. Sadar Police Station, authorities registered a comprehensive case (B. Sadar PS Case No. 584) invoking strict sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act. Investigators have also linked the incident to a wider chain of events, leading to the registration of three related cases covering the initial gang attack, the bomb hurling, and the mob assault on the suspect.
Following thorough spot investigations, witness statements, and evidence collection, police successfully rounded up 13 participants involved in the violence and obstruction. All suspects were processed under standard legal guidelines and forwarded to the Hon’ble Court.
In the wake of these events, Brahmapur Police have issued a stern warning to the public, urging citizens to maintain law and order and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Authorities reiterated that stringent legal action will be enforced against anyone participating in mob violence or obstructing police personnel on duty, as investigations into all related cases remain active.
