Sahidnagar police arrested a man who impersonated an IAS officer and claimed to be the Sub-Collector of Bhubaneswar to cheat unsuspecting people.
The accused, identified as Barada Sudhir from Visakhapatnam, introduced himself as a senior administrative officer and used the fake identity to gain trust and extract money from locals.
Police said Sudhir had been moving around the city in an official‑style vehicle and presenting forged documents to support his claim. Officers caught him after receiving multiple complaints from residents who grew suspicious of his behaviour. During interrogation, Sudhir admitted that he had been posing as a government officer for several weeks.
Investigators recovered fake identification cards, forged appointment letters, and other documents from his possession. They are now verifying whether he used the false identity to commit additional frauds in Odisha or neighbouring states.
Sahidnagar police registered a case under sections related to cheating, forgery, and impersonation. Officials said they will trace anyone who assisted Sudhir in creating the fake credentials.
